Al Jazeera

British police have opened a murder investigation after Ann Widdecombe, a former Conservative MP who later became a prominent spokesperson for Reform UK, was found dead at her home with serious injuries. Police confirmed the inquiry on July 11.

Widdecombe served in Parliament for more than two decades and remained a well-known public figure in British politics after leaving the Commons. Politicians across the political spectrum expressed shock and paid tribute. Few investigative details have been released, and police have not named a suspect.
