Ann Blyth, Oscar-nominated 'Mildred Pierce' actress, dies at 98

Ann Blyth, the actress and singer whose performance as Veda, Joan Crawford’s manipulative daughter in the 1945 film Mildred Pierce, earned her an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actress, has died at 98 .

A contract player in Hollywood’s studio era, Blyth worked across drama and musicals, later appearing in films including The Great Caruso and the title role in The Helen Morgan Story. Her death closes one of the last direct links to the 1940s studio system.
