A federal judge ruled that the Justice Department may release audio recordings and transcripts tied to a special counsel investigation of former President Joe Biden to the conservative Heritage Foundation, which had sued for access, The Hill reported .
The recordings — long sought under public-records requests and previously withheld by the department — document interviews conducted during the probe. Their release would make public material that has been the subject of partisan dispute since the investigation concluded, and gives a politically aligned outside group control over how and when the audio reaches the public.
