Equatorial Guinea's government resigns after missing its targets
Equatorial Guinea’s government resigned on Tuesday after falling well short of its goals, with the prime minister submitting the resignation of all cabinet members. Vice President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue — the son of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo — said the government had reached barely 10% of its targets, though he did not specify which objectives were measured.
Obiang, in power since 1979 and the world’s longest-serving head of state, appointed Manuel Osa Nsue Nsua as prime minister in 2024. The ruling Democratic Party said the outgoing government had pursued initiatives in public administration, infrastructure, public services and economic development.
In Equatorial Guinea’s system the president holds effective control and the prime minister and cabinet serve at his discretion, so a wholesale resignation functions as a reshuffle rather than a transfer of power. A new government is expected to be named in the coming days.
