Britain and Japan agreed a roughly £18bn investment deal , with Japanese companies set to back UK infrastructure and offshore wind projects, Downing Street said. The package is aimed at channeling foreign capital into the energy build-out the government has made central to its growth plans.
For the UK, securing large, named commitments from Japanese firms is as much about signaling investability as the headline figure — a counter to worries about capital flight and stalled energy projects. The substance will be in how much of the £18bn is fresh money versus previously flagged plans, and how quickly it converts into actual offshore-wind capacity.
