Iran war set to dominate G7 as Trump faces wary allies

The G7 summit in France is expected to be consumed by the U.S.-led war in Iran , pushing aside the economic agenda the gathering is normally built around. President Trump arrives a year after abruptly leaving the previous summit in Canada, and the conflict gives an already strained relationship with allies a far harder edge.

Outside the talks, protesters clashed with police in Geneva , where Swiss authorities used water cannons and tear gas to disperse anti-G7 demonstrators.

The substance to watch is whether the leaders can produce a common line on Iran — on the war’s aims, on any prospective U.S.-Iran deal, and on sanctions — or whether the summit exposes a transatlantic split. Trump’s history of walking out raises the stakes on a joint communiqué that may be hard to agree.
